What I'm doing today. . .

Lace, silk, flowers. . . Bonnets!

Sewing a bonnet is a bit like sewing inside a bucket. A pretty bucket. The last week of April, I went to a bonnet class where I spent a delightful day creating a bonnet form and chatting with some fabulous ladies! I went home with some lovely supplies:


The silk is. . . Silllky. The flowers are charming. The lace? It's yummy.



Okay, it's confession time. My teddy bear still lives on my bed. His name is Precarious Darius Stradivarius the Bearius. He prefers Darius. He's just as cuddly as he was when I was seven. Just so you know.
Anyway, he's graciously agreed to model my bonnet form.

Now? Do you think that the plaid bow-tie clashes? It might look better with my sheer fan-front?

The Language of Flowers

I'm about to watch "Return to Cranford", and I was remembering in the first Cranford how Jessie was so excited when Major Gordan gave her primroses. I just love the idea of flowers having meaning, so I looked up some more online. Here's a good website: The Language of Flowers.

Summer Busy

This week of mine has been busy busy busy. Some of it's been lazy busy and some of it's been busy busy, if that makes any sense.

Today will be busy as well.
1. I need to clean out two wading pools in the front with my sis, because they have algae and mosquito larvae in them. You know how to kill mosquito larvae? We tried bleach and then oil. The bleach was supposed to poison them, but it just turned their skin paler. The oil worked though because it suffocated them. So now we can dump and scrub.

2. I need to finish the neckline on my dress. Then I only have to attach the waist piping then attach the skirt.

3. I need to make french bread, rolls, cake and bread for slicing.

4. I want, but probably won't get to finish an art project I had going.

5. I need to do more Algebra today as well.

Here's a random picture of cake I made a few weeks ago when I went on a baking craze. I want to make another carrot cake today.


Anyway, I'll be signing out now, I need to get cracking.

Ah, summer!

4 days left!

I really want to wear my dress this Friday at the Fort. I don't know whether or not I'm attending the event yet, but I need a deadline.

Well, that's all for now folks. No, that band-aid isn't because I accidentally stabbed myself with my needle.

I feel kinda annoyed with the way Blogger arranges the pictures!
I want to put a picture in one place, Blogger sticks it in a different place, I have to drag it all around, my text is flying everywhere and it's very irritating! I need to find a tutorial somewhere...recommendations?

I'm off to do the dishes!

The Great Dress Fiasco!

Y'all have seen my dress. My 1855 fan-front, purple dress:


Now let's see what happened to it on Thursday:Bleach. It splashed onto my beautiful dress! So I'm undergoing the process of removing the bodice section and constructing a new one! Wish me luck!
